Page 1 of 2 The Con for the PSP offers fast-paced fighting action and a con system which puts you right in the action. Choose your fighting style, customize your own fighter and even fight your friends over a wireless connection. The Con presents plenty of hard hitting action. Fight it out or take a dive, how the con is played is completely up to you. So how will you work The Con?
The Con is a unique action, fighting game where you are given the opportunity to customize the game action and your character. One of the coolest features I’ve ever seen in a video game is The Con’s ability to import your face onto your customized character. That’s right, you can incorporate your own mug into the game. Creating your own custom character is important because you can choose a variety of personal features. From gender, weight, fighting stance, head editor all the way down to your character’s fighting style and appearance. I was surprised to have this level of customization on a PSP game but it was also very enjoyable to create the ultimate fighter.
After making my character’s personal features, I then discovered the combo editor. Here is where I could now customize my fight moves. I could coordinate my moves in a way that will speed up my attacks.
I then moved on to learning the controls of the game. Like all fighting games, you need to master the various fight move combinations to be successful and The Con is no different. Looking at the basic controls, you have the left and right high (head blows)/low (body blows) attacks, ducking forward, left and right dodge move, sway back. The PSP’s left button is for con/fake attacks and the right button is for blocks and parries. You can also perform throw maneuvers but be careful and learn how to keep yourself from being thrown.

Once you’ve learned the basics, then you can move on to the super attacks. These super attacks are for those who want to gain a little edge against their opponent. Some of the special attacks include street boxing, wrestling, Jeet Kune Do, kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do. These attacks will inflict a good amount of damage upon your enemy so try to master the moves.
You can choose to play in either quick play or story mode. In quick play, you are given the opportunity to get into a fight without any restrictions while playing in arcade mode. This would be just a typical one on one fight situation. In time attack, you are simply battling your opponents and the clock. In survival mode, you take on all comers in a fight to the finish but be prepared to get knocked around in this one though.
In story mode, this is set up in a tournament style fight ladder. The story is played out through a series of steps that you need to set up before you can enter. First, you have to set up a fight in Reina’s Dive. This is basically the main menu where you can do game saves, view rankings and more. Then you move up to lining up your first fight. You can view the current rankings so you can choose to fight someone within your rank. Then you move in the Versus screen. Here is where you will be able to see how you match up against your opponent. You will also find the odds of your match. The next step is the Fight Prep. Here’s where you can prepare your team for your upcoming match. You can choose to train your team, rest them or let them heal for their match. After your prep, you will return to Reina’s Dive where you can shop for things such as fight combos, special items and even get some hints. Now that you’ve completed all those initial stages, you’re almost ready for some action. Before you can start, you need to select a bet. You have the option of betting on yourself or your opponent. Imagine that, being rewarded for taking a dive. That’s why it’s called The Con, right?
