 Jak X Combat Racing pits our favorite hero Jak (without his pal Daxter
in this one) in the race of his life. This isn’t your ordinary racing
game by any stretch as you have to race Jak through 24 tracks and seven
combat arenas. But this is combat racing so you are given the
opportunity to arm your ride with some heavy-duty weaponry. Can you
handle the ride?
Time to take a ride through Kras City and here’s what I found out about Jak X Combat Racing.
Let’s Go for a Ride
There is a lot to learn in Jak X Combat Racing so let’s take it from the main menu. When the game starts, you are immediately brought to the main menu, which offers you a number of different options. These are Adventure mode, Exhibition mode, Customize, Profile, Options and Secrets. In Adventure mode, you have to race against Kras City’s best drivers and increase your ranking by winning races. Exhibition mode pits you against the computer driver or against your friend in a split screen display. Here’s where you can also take the game online. Customize offers you the ability to boost your ride’s performance.
The game play is boils down to you trying to win the race. Now how you go about accomplishing that task is up to you. Now before you jump into a race, you are going to want to learn the basic driving techniques such as power sliding, hang time and how to control your arsenal of weapons.
Back to customizing your ride, you are going to want to design your ride for the terrain you are going to be competing on. The customizing function allows you change every part of your ride from its appearance to body parts and performance issues.
Now once you have built your perfect ride, you are then given a number of different racing options such as Circuit Race, Turbo Dash, Freeze Rally, Death Race, Rush Hour, Time Trial, Deathmatch, Sport Hunt, Capture, Artifact Race, Assassin. You also have a number of different locations to check out as well such as Spargus, Kras City, Haven City, Icelands.
One of the cool elements of Jak X Combat Racing is playing online. You can either set up to host a game or you can do a search for other gamers and matches to join. You can also interact with other gamers via messages or using an approved online headset for voice capabilities.
The Final Word
I found Jak X Combat Racing to be a very exciting, action packed game. Yes, there is a little bit of violence with all of the explosions and weapons at your disposal but the game would be quite boring without it. I absolutely loved sending rockets towards my enemies as I was trying to gain ground in the race.
A good technique you may want to try to win some of those early races is to try and stay as close to the leader as you can without overtaking him. Pick up whatever arsenal or power ups in your path during the race but keep control of your vehicle. One crash and you’ll fall too far back to win. As you stay near the leader and the race winds down, be prepared to fire everything you got to take out all of those others racers ahead of you. I know it’s tough to try and hold onto all that ammo while you’re trying to stay in the race but it’s a pretty cool and successful move…at least on the early levels.
Jak X Combat Racing has everything covered from online multiplayer gaming to vehicle customization as well as a large arsenal of weapons at your disposal. Overall, you will find that Jak X Combat Racing to be fun and wildly entertaining. Don’t forget to pick up the upcoming Daxter game for the PSP. That game will enable you to unlock hidden drivers and cars in Jak X Combat Racing. Jak X Combat Racing is a five-rocket game that should keep you entertained for a very long time.
