Adobe Contribute CS3 is packaged in the Web Premium Edition of Creative
Suite 3. I have used all previous versions of Contribute so I was
excited to see what was going to be incorporated into the latest
version. I was very interested in some of the new features. Here is what I discovered about Abobe
Contribute CS3.
Now for those of you who may be new to Contribute, the program was designed to help users to maintain their websites and blogs with a very simple interface. The application can also be used as an administration tool for a client website where you would like to allow access to certain parts of the site template. This is to ensure that the template’s appearance will stay intact even with various users inputting content into the website.
After installing and launching Contribute CS3, you will be prompted to create a new connection to your website or your blog. There are settings for blogging sites Blogger, TypePad and WordPress. All you need is your account information from one of those blogging sites and Contribute CS3 will handle the rest.
Now let’s take a look at some of the new features in Contribute CS3.
While Contribute CS3 continues to sport some of the features found in previous versions such as publishing from Microsoft Office applications and editing your website or blog from within your web browser.
Adobe has added a number of new features that also integrates Acrobat into the mix. From Insert in the application menu, you can choose to add a Acrobat PDF file to your website or blog. You can choose a PDF from your hard drive, a website or a direct URL to an external PDF file on the web (you can surf the web from within Contribute to locate the link to the PDF you want to link to).
Another great feature is the ability to add your own HTML snippets to your pages. Let’s say you want to add some custom code to your page to add a little more pizzazz. Now you can open up the HTML Snippet code window (under Insert) and add your own code to your page or blog entry. I was able to add some custom CSS code to my content but I was unable to edit the code once it was submitted. I hope I was missing something because it doesn’t seem right to not be able to edit the code in case you have made a mistake.
Overall, I like the addition of PDF access to the program, I really enjoyed the HTML snippet feature. For those of you who want a little more control over how things appear on your site. Be careful about what you are typing in because open tags or bad syntax could cause havoc on your website. I also did not find a way to edit my code once I clicked OK.
Adobe Contribute CS3 is a nice improvement to an already solid application. Whether you are a site administrator, a blogger or run your own website, Contribute CS3 will continue to serve your web publishing needs. Adobe Contribute CS3 earns 4.5 stars out of 5. Highly recommended.
