SanDisk introduced the 4-gigabyte Memory Stick Pro Duo at the annual
Electronic Entertainment Expo back in May. This is the largest
available storage device for the Sony PlayStation Portable. This new
memory stick is for those who want to get the most of their portable
entertainment product.
Since the Sony PlayStation Portable doesn’t have an internal hard drive, you need to use memory stick pro duos to handle your game saves and other multimedia files. The problem has been trying to get all of your content onto a single memory stick. No one wants to swap memory sticks because they are just too easy to lose. With the new 4-gigabyte Memory Stick Pro Duo from SanDisk, your attention will turn from trying to fit all of your data to what else do you want to save on the PSP.
I have been using the 512MB memory stick pro duo since the day I got my PSP and it got filled up pretty quickly. While video game saves and MP3 audio files take up a good amount of space, the real disk space hog were those video files. With that limited amount of disk space, you had to worry about lowering the quality of your multimedia files to save on the memory stick.
The company says that you can store up to 64 hours of 128-bit MP3 audio files, 20 hours of movies, 12 hours of game saves or up to 4000 digital photos on this 4GB memory stick. Now that’s a lot of data. But I’m willing to give it a shot.
After installing the new memory stick, I went into the PSP’s system settings and reformatted the new device. After that completed, I now had 3.81GB of storage space available. That’s over 9 times the capacity of my previous 512MB memory stick. Now I had to find enough content to fill it up.
First I launched my Sony PSP Media Manager software and got all of my files together. After choosing my iTunes music collection (349 songs with most of them at 256-bit and higher), that took up 2.25-gigabytes, then I choose another 500 photos at medium quality which took up another 100MB and then saved another 10 video files, which were about used up almost another gigabyte of space. Even after all of these files, there was still a little more than 500MBs left on the memory stick. Now that’s just an amazing amount of content to be available on such a small storage device. I had over 850 individual files stored on the memory stick with disk space to spare.
Surprisingly, the data access was just as good even having to dig through all those files as it was using my old 512MB memory stick. The SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo is now available in 4GB, 2GB, 1GB, 512MB and 256MB capacities.
I was pleasantly surprised and very happy with the capacity and usage of the SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. To get the most out of your Sony PSP, you need to boost that storage capacity and the SanDisk 4GB memory stick pro duo is must-have addition for your Sony PlayStation Portable. The storage capacity will probably be more than sufficient to hold all of your game saves, photos, podcasts, video and audio files and anything else you can think of. The large capacity doesn’t hinder file access times and you will now be free to store a tremendous amount of content for your portable entertainment. The SanDisk 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo earns 5 out of 5 star rating. Highly recommended.
