I just bought the black iSkin eVo3 case for my 30GB video iPod. I did a
little research on the product first to make sure it contained some of
the features that I was looking for to protect my video iPod. There are
so many accessories available for the iPod but I wanted something that
would provide good case protection, a way to protect the screen without
scratching it and to still give me easy access to all of the iPod’s
functions. Here is what I discovered about the iSkin eVo3 30GB iPod
case.
The case is a little difficult to get over the top of the iPod. You have to work it little by little as you go around the edges. Try not to wiggle the hard plastic cover too much because it could lead to screen scratches.
The entire front face of the device is a hard plastic cover with the click wheel as the only area available (although it is covered by the rubber skin).
I left the original see-through wrapper on that the iPod came with to protect the screen and click wheel. I did this to protect the iPod screen from scratches from the hard plastic screen protector. If you no longer have the original wrapping, you can always take a three-inch square of plastic wrap and place over the iPod’s screen before you place it in the case. It will add an unnoticeable skin to act as a buffer between the screen protector and the iPod screen.
The removable clip on the back of the case is sturdy and clips tightly around a shirt or pants pocket. The molded area for the click wheel is the best feature of the case because it is soft to the touch, which makes it easy to access your iPod’s functions. With some cases, you have to strain a little to have the click-wheel recognize commands but not with the iSkin eVo3 iPod case. You can apply the same amount of pressure you would normally exert with no contact issues. I was able to play the iPod games (Sims Pool and Ms. Pac-Man) with no problems using the controls.
The cover over the dock makes it a little difficult to mount it inside Apple's iPod Universal Dock but it is possible. Just fold the dock flap back on the bottom of the case and hold it while you seat the iPod into the Universal Dock. Once you have it positioned properly and the iPod is recognized by your computer, then you can let go of the flap. Surprisingly, the flap will move back into its original position to keep particles from entering the dock port.
While the case does attract a little lint and takes a bit of patience to insert the iPod into the case, the eVo3 does do a good job keeping the iPod safe from the elements and occasional bumps and dings.
The iSkin eVo3 30GB iPod case earns 4.5 stars out of 5. Highly recommended.
