Energi to Go for iPod Review Energi to Go is the latest portable charger from the people at Energizer. This portable, battery-powered charger can be used for the video iPods as well as the iPod nanos and even the first generation mini. I was excited to find a device that didn’t need an external power source so I picked up the Energi to Go for my black 30gb video iPod. Here is what I discovered about the Energizer Energi to Go for iPods.

When you first get the device out of the package, you will be surprised on how small and lightweight the device is. On one end of the charger, you will see a panel that instructs you to push on it to open the battery chamber. If you hold the device in your left hand and push on the battery panel with your right hand, be careful not to squeeze the device case because it will make it a little tougher to open the battery chamber.

Energi to Go for iPod Review Once you have the chamber open, install the two AA alkaline batteries that come with the charger and close the case. Now you are ready for action.

To begin charging your iPod, you need to pull down on the switch at the back of the case. This will release the charging dock and make it available for you to plug your iPod in. I found that the charging is relatively quick when your iPod is carrying at least a half charged battery. If you have a iPod where the battery is rundown completely, it will obviously take a lot longer to recharge it.

If you’re looking at keeping your iPod at its maximum power level, then the Energi to Go will serve you very well. It does a fine job powering up your iPod if it’s just needs a quick charge or if you’re going to leave it charging for long periods of time.

The Energi to Go will need about two to three hours to do a full charge. The device does seem to go through batteries pretty quickly. After I had used up the power on my video iPod, I did a full recharge overnight. A couple more times and I discovered the batteries in the Energi to Go weren’t charging as quickly as the initial charge. This was a little disappointing in that I had already used up my portable power source. If you like your iPod on the road, you may want to pack some extra batteries.

Energi to Go specifications:
Supports the following iPod models:
- 4th and 5th generation iPod
- 1st and 2nd generation iPod nano
- 1st generation iPod mini

Overall, I found the Energi to Go iPod charger to be a pretty good portable solution for the iPod. It is the only portable charger that I have found that is powered strictly with batteries (2 lithium AA batteries) and not via an electrical outlet. The case weighs less than two ounces and it is very small at three and a half inches long and a little more than an inch wide. Best of all, you have instant access to power no matter where you are. The Energi to Go for the various Apple iPods earns 3.75 stars out of 5. Good recommendation.
