Parallels Desktop for Mac Headed to Apple Store Running Windows on the Mac will get even easier this month, as Parallels Desktop for Mac software will be made available at thousands of retail stores nationwide.

Distributed by Calabasas-based Nova Development as the exclusive retail publisher, the rollout begins immediately and continues through next month. Parallels Desktop for Mac will be available at The Apple Store, CompUSA, Staples, Office Depot, Fry's Electronics, Amazon.com, and numerous other software outlets. Until now, Parallels Desktop for Mac had only been available for purchase online.

The revolutionary software is the first solution for Intel processor-based Macs that enables users to simultaneously run Windows XP and most other operating systems, as well as their application programs, in isolated "virtual machines" running alongside OS X.

Parallels Desktop for Mac boasts the following important features:

-- Run any version of Windows, Linux or any other operating system at the same time as Mac OS X at near-native speeds. This is different from Apple's "Boot Camp" dual boot solution, in which users are forced to work in either Windows XP SP2 or Mac OS X and must completely shut down one in order to launch the other.
-- Securely share files and "copy and paste" data between Windows XP and Mac OS X programs.
-- Expand a "virtual machine" to full screen on a primary display or run it on a secondary display.
-- Reduce Windows 2000, 2003 and XP virtual machine hard drive size by 50 percent or more with Parallels Compressor technology. This powerful tool, which retails for $179, is included free with each copy of Parallels Desktop for Mac.

Parellels Desktop for Mac also includes a printed user manual and a quick start guide that walks users step by step through installation, setup, virtual machine creation, OS installation, and product operation.

The SRP for Parallels Desktop for Mac is $79.95. Through Aug. 15, users who purchase Parallels Desktop for Mac -- either in a retail store or on Nova Development's Web site -- will be eligible for a $20 rebate when Windows XP is purchased within 14 days. The rebate form is available at www.novadevelopment.com/windowsrebate.

For users who wish to try Parallels Desktop for Mac before they buy it, a trial version will also be available at www.novadevelopment.com. The full-functioning trial version can be used for up to 14 days at no charge.
