Edge Tech DiskGo Review EDGE Tech’s DiskGo has the appearance of a small cigarette lighter but this lightweight storage device offers consumers a great way to transport your files without the hassle. I picked up the four gigabyte DiskGo, which I felt would be large enough to carry all of my music, photos and video files.

These portable storage devices are very handy when you need to move large amounts of data without having to burn data to disc media. Portable storage devices are very useful because they are easy to transport and generally compatible wherever you go. Here is what I discovered about the Edge Tech DiskGo portable storage device.

Storage on the (Disk) Go
Using the Edge Tech DiskGo is very easy. The device has a USB plug that you need to pull up from the case. Once the USB plug is exposed, you can plug it into your system’s USB port. Just plug the DiskGo into your computer’s USB port and you should see the drive appear as an external storage device. To copy your files, just drag them to the drive and they should copy over with no problems.

In case the DiskGo doesn’t fit into the area when your USB port is located, you can use the six-inch USB cable that comes in the package.

When you are done copying your files to the DiskGo, remember to disconnect the device properly through the operating system first. Then physically remove it from the USB port. Disconnecting improperly could lead the data corruption.
Edge Tech DiskGo Review
I discovered a strange problem as I plugged the DiskGo into the USB port on my keyboard. I received a USB low power notice informing me that it could not operate because it needed more power than what was available through that port. This was a little strange to me because I have connected a number of portable USB storage devices the same way with no problems. When I plugged the DiskGo into the USB port on the back of my computer, it powered up fine and appeared as an external disk.

The package contains the DiskGo storage device, a six-inch USB cable, and a carry pouch for the DiskGo.

The Final Word
I found the EDGE Tech DiskGo to be a pretty good storage device. Their largest DiskGo is the 8-gigabyte drive but they also offer 6 and 4 gigabyte drives as well. These are the largest portable storage devices that I am aware of. While the 4-gigabyte DiskGo! Drive seemed like enough to hold most of your important files and more but the extra storage is available if you want it.

I did not like the pouch that comes with the DiskGo. The pouch was only large enough to hold the DiskGo but not the USB cable. It would have been nice to have a double pouch design so one pouch could hold the DiskGo and the other could be for the cable.

The EDGE Tech DiskGo works with Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP as well as Apple Macintosh systems running Mac OS 9 or later. Be aware that Windows 98SE users will need to download the driver from the Edge Tech website. All other users do not have to download the driver.

While I did not understand the USB power source issue and didn’t approve of the loose USB cable, which doesn’t fit into the pouch along with the DiskGo, the Edge Tech DiskGo portable storage device does perform well and works without the need to install drivers across Windows and Macintosh platforms. The Edge Tech DiskGo earns 3.75 stars out of 5. Good Recommendation.
